This book is a family relic, and I thought this would be a good way to preserve it, as well as a good way to share it. It is inscribed as follows:
"Alice D. Bement from Church of the Good Shepherd for regular attendance Lent 1916"
Alice D. Bement was my maternal grandmother and in Lent of 1916 she was twelve or thirteen years old. My guess is that she was in confirmation class at the time. The Church Of The Good Shepherd is an Episcopal church in Buffalo, New York, where several generations of my mother's family have worshipped.
